Hurlford is a village in East Ayrshire two miles east of Kilmarnock and three miles west of Galston on the A71 from Edinburgh to Ayr. Also called Whirlford and Hurdleford, after a ford crossing the River Irvine, it is formerly part of the parish of Riccarton. Hurlford and nearby Crookedholm have a population of around 5000. The village developed in the 19th century following the discovery of coal, and local industry included fireclay and ironstone; the ship's propeller at the Cross is an industrial monument to the past. Blair Park is home to Hurlford United Football Club. s1hurlford.com has been developed to allow residents share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
