Bowhouse Munitions Factory
My father, Donald Mann, was posted to Bowhouse Munitions factory along the Dumfries road from Hurlford in 1943. Bowhouse is now the site of the prison. We lived at Borland House, Kilmarnock from March 1943 until about 1946 when we moved to Fairlie. My father continued to work at Bowhouse for a short time. then he was moved to ICI at Ardeer, Stevenston. He is on my birth certificate as "explosives expert". I started school at Dean Castle in Kilmarnock in 1944, where a school had been evacuated from the Glasgow area.
