Closure of Academy Street Surgery.

by Jean Templeman

The patients of Dr Gold at the Surgery, Academy Street, learned of its closure on Thursday morning through an article in the local newspaper. This has caused much speculation and grievance as the patients were never informed of this happening. They knew Dr Gold was retiring and a survey was carried out by Ayrshire and Arran Health Board asking patients if they wanted a doctor to remain in Hurlford. The result of that survey was an overwhelming yes. This survey was carried out a year ago and since then no communication at all to any patient from the Health Board. A Public meeting is being held on Wednesday 16th June in the Community Centre at 8pm. This will be chaired by Hurlford & Crookedholm Community Council and hopefully someone from Ayrshire & Arran Health Board who will be able to explain what exactly they are planning for the Hurlford Practice.

Request for Bill McLung

Please can you get in touch directly with me Bill as we seem to be communicating through a third party. I and the people in Hurlford who are trying to maintain a full time surgery would appreciate your help. My email address and phone number in Kilmarnock Standard.

Lesley McIntyre says

I am pleased to confirm that there will be representation from both the Health Board  and Portland Medical Practice at the Community Council Meeting on 16th June. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss our plans and correct the misinformation printed in the Kilmarnock Standard last week.
