Crossroads Primary will close, parents are told
27 JulyCrossroads Primary will close, with its pupils to transfer to Galston Primary.
The Scottish Government has decided not to call in East Ayrshire Council's decision to close the primary school, on the outskirts of Hurlford, leaving the Council free to go ahead with the closure.
The Council wants to shut Crossroads because of structural problems which have made the building unsafe, but many parents object.
Writing on our sister site s1galston earlier this year, local MSP Cathy Jamieson called on the Council to redo its sums, saying that by closing the school the council might not save money but in fact lose funding.
The Council says it has now written to parents and staff about the decision to go ahead with the closure and offering children places at Galston Primary after the October break. Children from Crossroads Primary are currently being educated at Bellfield Primary and will remain there until then.
A statement from the Council said: "Council officers are meeting with the senior staff of both Crossroads and Galston Primary School to ensure that children have the best possible experience.
"The Council is very grateful to everyone who participated in the consultation exercise on the future of the school, and to all who have supported Crossroads Primary School over the last year."
What do you think? A welcome resolution to a dragging problem, or more disruption for the children?
