Hurlford Primary will have Euroquiz whiz kids on the buzzer

Local primary school children are set to battle it out with youngsters from all over Scotland in a nationwide quiz this spring.

  • What is the capital of Hungary?
  • Which is the smallest member state of the EU?
  • How many MEPs represent Scotland?

If you don't know the answers, just ask the primary 6 pupils competing in this year's Euroquiz. Teams of four pupils from seven schools will take part in the East Ayrshire heat, which will take place on Thursday 4 March at Nether Robertland Primary School, Stewarton. Questions will cover history, geography, sport, culture and the European Union, as well as general knowledge.

Primary schools competing are St Andrew's, Hurlford, Lainshaw, Nether Robertland, Mauchline, Barshare and Greenmill.

The winning team will go on to represent East Ayrshire against the other 31 local authority teams for the Standard Life Trophy in the national final in May 2010.

Councillor Iain Linton said: "I wish all our teams the best of luck and look forward to following the progress of the winners as they proceed towards the final. It's a real challenge for the children, but should be a lot of fun as well."

Euroquiz is organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET)
and sponsored by Standard Life. SEET is a registered charity, which aims to provide information about Europe and the European Union to schools, colleges and universities. It works closely with the European Parliament, the European Commission, Learning Teaching Scotland, Eurodesk, the British Council and the Scottish Government.
