Public Meeting

by Jean Templeman

The Public meeting last night was extremley well attended by the people of Hurlford who came out in force to find out what was happening in the near future to the Doctor practice.

Ayrshire & Arran Health Board's representative David Rowland outlined the plan that the practice would now be under the direction of Portland Medical Practice at 34, Portland Road, Kilmarnock.

This will be a full time permanent general practice based at Hurlford Clinic offering holistic care. Dr. Lesie McIntyre outlined to the people at the meeting what the changes would mean and what the benefits would be by belonging to a larger practice.

Many questions were raised naturally as Hurlford is so long used to a practice for Hurlford alone. But the decision stands.

Many people have to be thanked for their time and efforts with petitions from which some 2,ooo signatures showed an opposition to change.

Also Andy the caretaker at the Community Centre who had to find extra chairs and who had the clearing up to do after the meeting no one expected such a large turn out. Well done Hurlford, we lost what we hoped for but showed we still have a great village spirit.
